The Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) is excited to host its first-ever Virtual Forum scheduled for March 8 & 10, 2022. The Forum Theme is: Reference and User Services Re-engaged What have we learned? What ideas will we keep? How can we prepare for future disruptions? Which patrons did we serve well and where can we improve to serve all patrons?
The purpose of the Virtual Forum is to showcase the work of our sections and interest groups.
Sections highlighted are:
- Business Reference and Services Section (BRASS);
- Collection Development and Evaluation Section (CODES) ;
- Emerging Technologies Section (ETS);
- History Section (HS);
- Reference Services Section (RSS); and
- Sharing and Transforming Access to Resources Sections (STARS).
The special interest groups are:
- Federal and Armed Forces Libraries;
- Financial Literacy Interest Group;
- First Year Experience; and
- Shared Collections.

Opening Keynote Session- Using Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) to provide Reference and User Services
91´«Ã½ Executive Director Tracie Hall will lead a moderated Q&A with 91´«Ã½ leaders to discuss the role of EDI in their organizations. We will hear directly from Julius Jefferson Jr., Immediate Past President, 91´«Ã½ and Patty Wong, President, 91´«Ã½ as they share their perspectives of EDI and how it applies to reference and user services.
Closing Session- Incorporating Race-Centered and Trauma-Informed Practices into the Reference Interview
Hear directly from chapter authors, Emma Antobam-Ntekudzi and Nicole Williams, of the forthcoming ACRL Book The Community College Library: Reference and Instruction. Academic librarians recognize the necessity to re-examine and change reference services to better serve BIPOC students and those from other marginalized groups. Speakers will show the significance of raising race consciousness and integrating this awareness into everyday reference interactions with students in the library. Speakers will also provide effective methods of engagement such as incorporating trauma-informed practices in order to create an inclusive and safe experience for students in the library.
