2. Using New Media in Information Literacy Instruction

lead by Amanda Hornby and Leslie Bussert

Saturday, January 2007
1:30 - 2:25 pm
Sheraton Seattle, Grand Ballroom D

Join Humanities Librarian Leslie Bussert and Media & Technology Studies Librarian Amanda Hornby for a discussion about new media in higher education, and its application in current information literacy instruction. The influence of new media on students' lives is evidenced in everything from changing learning styles, the popularity of social networking websites like Facebook and Second Life, and the broader social changes produced by increased access to technology. How can new media invigorate or pose challenges to the student experience? In what ways will the academic library be transformed by new media? The discussion will explore these questions and more. We will also share and discuss examples of how faculty have incorporated new media into their teaching and assignments.
