Bechtel: To administer annually the Bechtel fellowship to up to three librarians to read and study at the Baldwin Library of the George A. Smathers libraries, University of Florida.
DSA: To administer annually an award to recognize an individual who has made a significant contribution to children's services and ALSC
PRH Award: To select up to four children's librarians to receive a $600 stipend to attend their first 91´«Ã½ Annual Conference.
Scholarships: To select recipients and alternates for the annual ALSC scholarships: Frederic G. Melcher and Bound to Stay Bound for professional education of librarians to work with children; to publicize the scholarships to potential candidates; and to advise the ALSC board on needed changes in terms or administration of the scholarship.

The Professional Recognition and Scholarships Committee consists of eight members appointed from the ALSC membership at large, serving 2-year terms and led by the two co-chairs, appointed in alternating years. (2 co-chairs + 6 members)

- Process committees (non-award committees) are appointed in early spring (Jan-May)
- Award and evaluation committees are appointed in early fall (July-Oct)
- Replacement positions pop up and are filled throughout the year (ongoing)
The Vice-President/President-Elect begins making his/her process committee appointments in February/March. In August/September, after being seated as President, he/she will then begin filling fall appointments.
