2024-2025 YALSA President: Yvette Garcia

"I am both humbled and excited by the opportunity to serve and support YASLA members and the teens they serve. YALSA is in a period of transition that comes with both challenges and opportunities. I am looking forward to working with our Board of Directors in continuing to rebuild and reinvigorate YALSA’s advocacy work. Intellectual freedom is the cornerstone of democracy and lifelong learning. As YALSA President, I am committed to upholding and promoting intellectual freedom in all aspects of our work. By fostering an environment where young adults can explore, question, and learn without fear of censorship, we are empowering the next generation of informed and engaged citizens. Also, I love sharks, especially Jaws."

Highlights of Yvette Garcia's involvement in YALSA include:

  • Serving as Chair, the President’s Theme Implementation Taskforce
  • Serving as Chair, Member Programming (formerly Educational Advisory) Committee
  • Serving as Chair and Member on YALSA’s Division and Membership Promotion Committee
  • Serving as Chair, 22x20 Taskforce
