I have been the teacher librarian at R.A. Long High School in Longview, Washington since September, 2014. In addition to handling the collection and Chromebooks, I teach Library Science, Yearbook, and Analysis of Contemporary YA Literature. My first real exposure to the power of YALSA connections was chaperoning a group of Patti Tjomsland’s students at a BFYA forum at a Seattle Midwinter Conference. YALSA was the impetus for me to move from a student-driven library to a student-run library. The blogging teams gave me my first taste of volunteering, and I treasure the relationships with colleagues and teens that that opportunity opened up. For those who are nervous about jumping in, the YALSA water is warm. Take the plunge. My husband and I have five bonus children (ranging in age from 22 – 40) and one biological son. I was a single mom until he was 16. We are empty nesters, and I am proudly owned by two lovable Afghan Hounds Sunny and Cher!
