What library or organization do you work for?
I work for San Francisco Public Library (SFPL) as a Teen Librarian at one of the neighborhood branches. As someone who has grown up attending SFPL programs and visiting the branches, it feels gratifying to work for a place that had such a positive impact on my childhood and teen years.
What is the best part about your job?
Besides talking to patrons about books, connecting with the community and coming up with fun teen programs. I'm always so inspired by all the creative things other librarians do at SFPL, and also nationwide.
What's your favorite YALSA Memory?
My favorite YALSA memory is serving on the 2020 Printz Committee. It was an honor to be part of an amazing group of librarians who are so passionate about young adult literature and to be part of the award process.
What are your hobbies?
Reading, reading, and reading. Besides that, I enjoy checking out art museums, listening to music (k-pop is my current obsession), and learning new things. Currently, I'm taking k-pop dance classes!
Do you have a particular YA genre you enjoy as you work with your patrons?
All genres, though currently we are getting requests for horror in YA. I love to talk to teens or any readers about the books they like and do not like. At the branch, I have a program where teens can get free books to keep in exchange for their feedback.
Any projects in the near future?
There's a strong digital divide in the neighborhood I serve and I will lead an internship program for teens to help older adults with basic technology needs at my branch. This is part of a bigger SFPL pilot program in partnership with our state library and I am very excited for it.
