Small Library Award

The Roseau Area Friends of the Library in Roseau, MN maintain ongoing activities such as advocacy, collaboration with other civic groups, fundraising, growing the membership base, and developing and promoting program initiatives for their library. In addition, when a "100 year" flood devastated the town and the library, the Friends recruited dozens of new volunteers and "…raced the clock to remove all wet books and other materials and carpet to prevent a forest of black mold from destroying the collection…." Mobilizing resources to respond to a major natural disaster while still maintaining and enhancing "normal" operations, the Roseau Area Friends provide an outstanding example to Friends groups nationwide.

Large Library Award

The Mary B. Carver School Library in San Antonio, Texas has an active and effective Friends group. In order to involve students, teachers and community members to take advantage of a variety of library resources, the Friends created a reading / lounge area in the library and involved high school teachers and students in a literacy outreach program which supplied an early childhood learning center with books. They also created a Library Club whose members include high school students, librarians, and community members. This club has developed baseline library use standards, a strategic plan, and a timeline for implementation.

@ your library® Award

Friends and Foundations of California Libraries created and promoted a most successful Library Lover’s Month @your library®" campaign. This campaign was designed so that its member library support groups could conduct themed promotional and fund raising campaigns within their communities. The official 91´«Ã½ "@ your library®" slogan and logo were used for all materials, thus helping to spread the national library brand throughout the state of California. The statewide campaign netted national recognition in The Ladies Home Journal and Scouting Magazine. The Library Lover’s Month @your library®" received over 100,000 page views and over 20,000 unique visitors in January and February.
