91´«Ã½ Connect (Exhibition Discussion Group)
Exploring Human Origins project directors are members of an online discussion group on . As a member of the , you will receive an email when a discussion has been posted by another member. You can also post a message to the group by adding a new thread on the discussion page.
All local Project Directors for Exploring Human Origins are required to have an 91´«Ã½ Connect account to access the discussion group. If you are an 91´«Ã½ member, you can access 91´«Ã½ Connect using your member login. If you are not a member and do not already have an 91´«Ã½ Connect, instructions for how to make a free account can be found .

Exhibition Security and Insurance
Exhibition Security
The Exploring Human Origins exhibition must be displayed in an appropriate and safe environment. An appropriate environment means that the exhibition is not displayed outdoors, in a tent area, or in a temporary building, but in an open area or gallery inside a permanent building.
The exhibit should be monitored by staff at least once every hour. The host should examine the exhibit at the end of each day to determine that all components are in working order and undamaged.
The host should report any damage or other important information about the exhibition to 91´«Ã½ as soon as possible after observing it. Damages can be reported to the 91´«Ã½ Public Programs Office at publicprograms@ala.org. Damages should also be mentioned in the Condition Report.
Insurance
The host agrees to maintain responsibility for the condition of the exhibition. Hosts will be held responsible for damage to or loss of the exhibition when it is under their control. 91´«Ã½ is not responsible for personal injury or property damage arising from the installation, use, or defective nature of the traveling display.
The host agrees to add an insurance rider in the value of $194,000 on their insurance policy for the time the exhibit is at the host site or arrange to have the exhibition insured under the host site’s comprehensive insurance for $194,000. The host also agrees to provide a certificate of insurance or letter from an authorized insurance agent to the 91´«Ã½ Public Programs Office no later than 45 days prior to the exhibit opening day at the host site; this insurance certificate is to be uploaded in the Pre-Exhibit Report (as described in the "Reporting Requirements" section of the "Logistics" section). Because of varied delivery and pick-up dates, your additional exhibit insurance coverage should begin 10 days before the first day of your host period and extend to 10 days after the last day of your host period.
Your insurance certificate should include:
- "91´«Ã½" and the "Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History" listed as certificate holders and additional insured
- Your host period dates, plus 10 days before and 10 days after
- Insurance value of at least $194,000
- A mention that the insurance is to cover the “Exploring Human Origins” traveling exhibit
Please note: the programming allowance may not be used to pay for insurance coverage.
Americans with Disabilities Act
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) (PL 101-336), which went into effect in July 1992, guarantees that people with disabilities shall have equal access to employment, public services and accommodations, transportation, and telecommunications services.
As public service providers, exhibition host sites must make reasonable efforts to give disabled people the same access to information, programs, and resources enjoyed by those who are not disabled.
Each host site on the tour will have varying capabilities for providing equal access to disabled people. We urge you to do as much as you reasonably can to make programs accessible to the disabled population. This may include creating space for wheelchairs in program spaces, preparing large-print versions of program handouts, providing for sign language at programs, or providing audio versions of texts used in programming. Local or regional agencies that are responsible for services for the disabled may be helpful.
