To support the leadership development needs of public librarians in accordance with the PLA strategic plan and to advise and recommend to the PLA Board of Directors strategies related to leadership development for the profession.

Deliverables and outcomes:

  • Provide advice and feedback on PLA leadership development programs and activities
  • Explore new leadership trends, partnerships and effective practices, and communicate these to the field
  • Work with partners, PLA members and staff as appropriate to identify leadership training development needs
  • Explore and review policies, practices, and funding mechanisms used by other organizations to train new leaders

Expected time commitment:

  • Attend 91´«Ã½ Midwinter Meeting and 91´«Ã½ Annual Conference (2 hours/year plus travel time)
  • Attend virtual meetings (5–8 hours/year)
  • Review and respond to emails and 91´«Ã½ Connect messages (2–3 hours/year)

Desired skills, knowledge, or experience:

  • Familiarity with PLA strategic plan and leadership model
  • Familiarity with public library leadership needs
  • Skills to apply broad leadership trends to the public library context
  • Ability to represent the public library field and PLA
