Mark provided the following upon receiving the award:
"My most humble and sincere thanks to the selection committee for the EMIERT Distinguished Librarian of the Year Award. I truly appreciate your consideration of my nomination and your recognition of what I hope others consider a notable contribution to the LIS profession in a relatively short span of time. I've received notes of congratulations via every communication platform imaginable from librarians all over the US, Canada, and some overseas! What I've expressed to many is that this important work cannot be done in a vacuum. It takes an extended community to ensure that efforts to diversify our profession are sustained and effective. If libraries, archives and other cultural heritage institutions are to develop climates of inclusion for all stakeholders - for employees and patrons alike - it will take a deep commitment from individuals and organizations to work deliberately toward that. Many thanks to the 91´«Ã½ EMIERT for recognizing how important this work continues to be!"
