Composition

The committee has at least 12 members, including the Chair and a vice-Chair, appointed from the membership of Core by the Appointments Committee of the division. Committee members should represent a variety of professional backgrounds. Committee members serve 2-year, staggered terms.

Deliverables

  • Create a running list of topics from Core committees and Interest Groups.
  • Develop a list of current trends in Core topic areas, in coordination with section-level groups or appropriate division committees.
  • Submit a prioritized list of at minimum 3-5 topics and speakers from each area to the Continuing Education Committee.
  • Work with the Core Forum Committee and Conference Programming Coordination Committee to help pick speakers and topics and encourage presentations on important topics.

Ongoing Work

  • Communicate with other Core committees and Interest Groups to assist in determining trends and specialized content needs.
  • Regularly monitor discussion lists and other communication channels for trends affecting libraries.
  • Work with assigned special topics such as competency development committees and standards committees to review their content and ensure Core content is regularly updated and communicated.
  • Communicate with section-level committees such as Emerging Technology Trends to ensure trends are not missed.
  • Assist the Communications Coordination Committee with content strategy.

Expected Time Commitment

  • Regular meetings (~1 hour/month)
  • Review of Core content and outreach to potential content creators in assigned area (~2 hours/month)
  • Ongoing tracking of current trends in libraries (~15-25 hours/year)
  • A two-year primarily virtual commitment; committee members are encouraged to attend Core programming in person
