Providing online access to licensed scholarly content with optimized user experience and privacy protection is a major service of libraries. As a committee in the Core Technology section, this committee will provide a venue for the library community to be partners in the new evolving authentication landscape. It will focus on activities listed below in its initial period, and can redefine their charge as technology and community needs evolve:

  1. Recruit people with interest and expertise in authentication and authorization to initiate a community of practice;
  2. Establish a roadmap for librarians developing skills to support user authentication, authorization, experience, and privacy;
  3. Provide regular updates to the Core membership on developments regarding patron privacy, equity of access, and other topics of interest;
  4. Manage details of the relationship with .

The committee seeks a wide variety of perspectives and diverse membership, including representatives of academic, public, and special libraries. The committee also invites technical advisors from vendors and other stakeholders, who do not have to be members of 91传媒, and who do not have voting rights on the committee.

Deliverables

Document the committee and Core's relationship with the Seamless Access community;

Establish a roadmap for knowledge/skills development for librarians:

  • Collaborate with the Continuing Education Coordination Committee to host a series of structured webinars to educate the library community on federated authentication and implications for libraries;
  • Present at 91传媒 Annual and Core Forum
  • Create a central hub for reference and training materials

Create a community of practice for managing access and authentication to electronic resources;
