I am currently fascinated by by Daniel Mason. As a librarian who was trained as an archivist, I am in love with how this book connects the history of a place with nature from different literature genres and the perspective of various people (species!). I always pair a fiction book with a non-fiction, and I just finished reading by Hayley Cambell. I am so glad this book took me to places and people that are central to death in Western culture that I could otherwise never experienced.

Describe ACRL in three words:

Connection, opportunity, empowering.

ACRL is a community of resources, network connections, and growth. In my brief years as an academic librarian and an ACRL member, the events I attended, volunteer opportunities I participated in, and professional connections I built were invaluable to my career and made me feel empowered and confident about contributing to the field of librarianship.

What do you as an academic librarian contribute to your campus?

As the new Asian Studies Librarian, I am dedicated to enhancing this role from a subject specialist to a contributor to global studies. I seek creative ways to connect and support my students, faculty, and scholars in research as well as teaching and learning services. I am also constantly exploring new collaborations with other departments, such as the art museum, and communities, such as the Carolina Asia Center, to bring learning and engaging knowledge and people of Asia in innovative ways. I can see my role as the bridge between Asian studies and the rest of the subject areas on campus, as well as the connection between academia and the greater community.

In your own words

I love my job as an academic librarian who can forever be curious, learn new knowledge and resources, collaborate with diverse individuals, and bring them back to benefit the community. I am glad that ACRL is providing the opportunity and support to do what I am excited about, and I am happy that my passion for librarianship makes me thrive in my career and personal life.
