I am reading "The Girl Who Smiled Beads". This is the book World Campus is using for their summer book club and I am creating the discussion questions.
Welcoming, supportive, inclusive.

What I value most about ACRL is the vast amount of opportunities that exist for getting involved. I have been able to take leadership positions on some committees and simply sit on the periphery in others. There is a place for many different interests and groups important to libraries and if one does not exist, there is the potential to create one.

I am the librarian dedicated towards thinking about our online students and other stakeholders. Penn State has a very large World Campus but we also have other online learning occurring. I collaborate with my colleagues both within and outside of the library to make a difference in the educational experience of students. As an example, today I collaborated with a creative director for English and with a colleague in the library to integrate information literacy digital badges into an online course.

I never thought I would be an academic librarian, I don't even have my MLIS! However, since I was hired as a graduate assistant within the library I have had a desire to work as a librarian. I enjoy my time at Penn State as publishing is also a valued endeavor and I can apply many of the skills and knowledge I gained as a Ph.D. student into my work as a librarian. The library should be an integral part of every student's collegiate experience, whether they are living in a dorm or serving our country. I am honored to work in a role where I get to make a difference for online students.
