I'm in a bit of a book funk at the moment, so I decided to go back and re-read an old favorite. I chose "Persuasion" by Jane Austen. Next up is a review copy of Erik Larson's new book, "The Splendid and the Vile."
Connections, resources, support.

I like how ACRL connects me to other librarians in academic libraries. I work at a small college, with a relatively small library staff. It's easy to feel isolated as I focus on my own duties. ACRL helps me feel connected to the library community.

As a librarian at a small college, I wear a lot of hats. I teach information literacy skills to our student body, and provide one-shots to many of our classes. Apart from teaching and providing reference assistance to the students, which I love, I also handle our special collections. For the past few years we have been engaged in grant-funded digitization projects, helping to make archival resources more accessible. I love when I'm able to interest students in the history of our college and area!

When I first started thinking about going into library science, I wasn't considering becoming an academic librarian. Soon after I started my program I decided this was the best fit for me. As a research-fiend who wanted to be able to help people, working in an academic library seemed like the perfect fit. I love being able to support my students through some of the toughest tasks of their college experience, and give them skills that will help them throughout their lives.
