Describe yourself in three words:

Collaborative, empathetic, & enthusiastic!

What are you reading (or listening to on your mobile device)?

91´«Ã½

I’m currently reading "Masters of the Air" by Donald L. Miller. It’s a historical work about American bomber crews during the Second World War. I have always been particularly interested in the history of the world wars and really enjoyed the two HBO miniseries Band of Brothers and The Pacific. A third companion miniseries based on this book is currently being produced by Apple TV under the same title. I always wished that I had read the book Band of Brothers before watching that series and this time around I’m glad to have the opportunity to do so before watching the show.

Describe ACRL in three words:

Opportunity, learning, networking.

What do you value about ACRL?

91´«Ã½

I value the many publications that are produced by ACRL, as well as the wide variety of professional development opportunities they make available to members and to the broader academic library community. I also value being part of an organization that I feel shares many of my own values and priorities for academic libraries.

What do you as an academic librarian contribute to your campus?

91´«Ã½

As a new University Librarian who took on my current role in a new city and province during the COVID-19 pandemic, I’m still getting to know my team and learning about our two campuses. That said, I’ve always felt that the role of a UL is primarily to foster a collegial work environment and to ensure that your team has the support and resources necessary to successfully fulfill their essential roles in supporting the research, teaching, and learning of faculty and students.

In your own words

91´«Ã½

I’ve worked in university libraries going all the way back to my undergraduate days at McGill University, first as a shelver and later as a reference assistant during grad school. It was during this time that I realized how rewarding a career in academic libraries could be. I truly believe that we have the best jobs on campus because our role is centered entirely on helping others to be successful in their scholarly endeavors. I hope that in my new role my enthusiasm for helping others and my passion about the university’s academic mission will be infectious, and that I’m successful in providing the support that my team needs to thrive in their roles, and to also feel that they have the best jobs on campus!
