Outgoing, enthusiastic, intelligent.
I am reading "Everything I Never Told You" by Celeste Ng and "The Gilded Wolves" by Roshani Chokshi.
Network, connective, collaborative.
I appreciate that there is an organization that can aid me with my professional development and offer opportunities to network and collaborate with other academic librarians.
There are only 5 librarians on staff at Walsh University so we each do a little of everything - reference, instruction, collection development - but then we each have our own specialty areas as well. My job title is a mouthful - student engagement and archival services. I coordinate all our social media and
student outreach that happens through the library, whether we're hosting our own program or collaborating with another department on campus. My favorite event we've hosted this year was our "Superhero Showdown" debate where we pitted Marvel and DC against one another and debated their merits for Will Eisner Week. On top of all this I also oversee the Walsh University Archives. It keeps my days full and I love it.
I tell students all the time that being an academic librarian is a lot of fun because I am constantly learning! I work as a liaison librarian to several groups and majors on campus - history, education, communication, sociology, and the Honors Program - and I love getting research mysteries from them. I've had the opportunity to learn about all sorts of topics through helping students, from how smallpox affected the siege of Boston to women's rights movements in Bulgaria to racism in online dating, all things I'd have never learned about otherwise (and I didn't have to write a paper!).
