As an early career librarian, ACRL has provided me with vital information I use to engage with the community I serve on a daily basis. Through professional development opportunities and countless resources, I have been able to continue my growth as a librarian to ensure I use best practices.

I contribute to my campus by engaging in instruction, outreach, collection development and many other duties as well. With any task, my priority is always to foster an inclusive environment in the library for all. Creating programming that highlights the voices of marginalized communities, outreach work to our various student organizations, being a member of my library’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee, and reaching out to other campus entities are just a few concrete examples of ways I contribute to my library while also aiming to create a welcoming environment.

Being an early career librarian, I have been lucky enough to have great support from my colleagues and those close to me which has helped me tremendously when providing support and creating programming for our students. Additionally, building relationships with faculty and staff who are supportive of the library helps plenty when looking to do programming or other initiatives outside of my routine library work to create an inclusive environment and support student success. Considering that academic libraries aren’t always funded properly or lack staff, finding one’s co-conspirators on campus can go a long way in achieving set goals.
