I've been listening to the podcasts Latina to Latina and In the Thick quite a bit, it's wonderful to hear the perspectives of Latin voices about modern issues. I also generally have a couple of different books going at once, I just got done listening to "With the Fire on High" by Elizabeth Acevedo, and reading "Storm of Locusts" by Rebecca Roanhorse. I love YA dystopian fantasy and magical realism with strong female characters, I'm looking for the next series that will pull me in and make me stay up late at night reading.

I joined the ACRL in my quest to become an academic librarian. I really wanted to see what skills I should learn and the challenges I would face. ACRL has been very helpful for me in that regard. It seems that there is a webinar (a lot of them free) for a lot of the different challenges that academic librarians face and they are always up to date on the latest research. The resources that ACRL offers have really helped me learn about new methods and research that we all need to be keeping up with to do our jobs.

My next task is to land a permanent position as an academic librarian, preferably in the institution that I am currently serving. This is my alma mater and we serve a very diverse, non-traditional demographic for which I think my experience puts me in a position to really relate to and help my students. Being part of ACRL and the network of academic librarians who are willing to share their experience and knowledge has been great. I'm really hoping that it brings opportunities for scholarship and collaborations that will help me grow professionally.

While I knew that I wanted to be an academic librarian, I didn't realize how much I would enjoy it. Working with students at the reference desk has been awesome, there's something about that look they get when something clicks and they understand what you are trying to teach them that makes me feel accomplished. I have always loved learning new things and exploring new subjects, as a new brand new (4 months!) librarian there is a lot of that happening and it feels like a privilege to do what I love for a living. I'm also very fortunate that I have great colleagues who are very willing to answer my questions and give me guidance, that's priceless.
