ACRL is a very supportive resource for academic librarians: a hub for information, learning and collaborative networking.

What do you as an academic librarian contribute to your campus?

I support graduate students in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering and the College of Computing. I provide instruction and consultations at every point along their graduate journey. I also invest significant time in collection renewal and collection development. I am one of a team of Graduate Librarians at KSU; we created and hosted the national Transforming Librarians for Graduate Students Conference in 2016 and 2018. The enthusiasm of conference attendees led to the collaborative ACRL publication of Transforming Libraries to Serve Graduate Students, co-edited by myself and Cheryl Stiles. We are thrilled that this book was ACRL’s #3 book of the 2018-19 fiscal year. It is so rewarding to see that our passion of supporting graduate students is shared and discussed in a continually widening community. Everyone’s individual services will be better for sharing our experiences with each other

In your own words

It is amazing to me how everything in my life seems to find its way into my librarianship and, conversely, how my librarianship seeps into most areas of my life outside work as well. I am continually energized by the bright, innovative students and faculty that I have the privilege of working with on a daily basis. There is nothing quite like seeing that spark of discovery light in someone’s eyes when I show them the wealth of information available to them via our library resources. It makes my daily work worthwhile and motivates me and my fellow graduate librarians to strive for new programs, new resources and new opportunities for the communities we service.
