I am currently tackling the mound of fiction and nonfiction books on my nightstand. I just finished "Furious Hours: Murder, Fraud, and the Last Trial of Harper Lee" by Casey Cep. Right now I’m reading: "Malice" by Keigo Higashino, "Mexican Gothic" by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, and "Murder on the Red River" by Marcie Rendon.

I value all the folks I have had the privilege of meeting and working with thus far. I also value the opportunities that ACRL and all the sections have to offer. There are many ways to get involved and stay informed of what is going on in academic librarianship. I am currently active in ESS and ULS and I’ve learned a lot! I am also very grateful to DOLS and ULS for sponsoring me as an Emerging Leader.

My current role at Stony Brook University is a technical services staff position. While my work in acquisitions is more on the “backend” of things, I tend to think that my work contributes to the campus at large. In technical services, a lot of our work has to do with making sure records are accurate in the catalog and other repositories. I like making sure that orders and itemsn are processed and received in a timely and efficient manner and that inconsistencies in the catalog are remediated. At the end of the day, what we do in technical services affects how users access materials now and in the future. I also have a part-time librarian role at Sarasota University that allows me to contribute to various areas including reference & instruction, curriculum development, and budgeting & strategic planning.

I consider myself a lifelong learner and so librarianship is really an ideal profession for me. From cataloging to reference (not to mention emerging technologies and changing workflows), I enjoy learning it all. I also have to say that the knowledge sharing and problem solving that takes place between me and my colleagues is vital to how I do my work. I’ll end with this -- I firmly believe that we all can do our part in contributing to our workplaces and ensuring that we treat each other with respect and empathy, just as we strive to do for our users and communities.
