Describe yourself in three words:

Adventurous, Excited, Kind.

Describe ACRL in three words:

Inspiring, Collaborative, Informative.

What do you value about ACRL?

As a new member and new academic librarian, I value all the resources I have access to. I’m very excited to attend the ACRL 2019 conference, but in the meantime I have been attending webinars (super helpful in my transition from a school library to a university library). I also spend a lot of time on the Instruction Section’s website!

What do you as an academic librarian contribute to your campus?

My job title is Teaching and Learning Librarian, so most of my time is spent teaching first- and second-year students or working with faculty to improve student learning. I collaborate with instructors teaching first year seminars to create research assignments for their classes. Also, my university partners librarians with Composition instructors so that we can do two library lessons for each class. I love doing research consultations with my Composition students because they come in feeling anxious and leave feeling confident. My research agenda is focused on examining how our library can be better for our underserved populations, so I hope that eventually my contributions will include creating new services, programs, and activities. Probably my greatest contribution thus far has been my willingness to say yes and my enthusiasm for trying new things.

In your own words

I entered academic librarianship after careers as a high school English teacher and middle school librarian. Transitioning to a university library has been an exciting (if unexpected) adventure. I feel very lucky to have a librarian job that is so pedagogically focused where so much of my time is spent in classrooms. I’m proud to provide research, information literacy, and other library services to our university and public community.
