To conduct a second revision of the Art and Rare Materials (ARM) BIBFRAME ontology extension for the description of art objects, archives, and special collections materials, in collaboration with SAA. The work will build upon the output of the previous revision completed in 2021. The task force will critically examine modeling of aggregates, part-of relationships, and other areas identified as needing further development.

Appointments will be at the discretion of the ACRL President, in consultation with RBMS, with the task force appointed by Winter/Spring 2024/2025. RBMS membership on the task force will consist of up to five members from the RBMS cataloging community.

Tasks & Timeline

  • Review the current ARM v1.0 ontology extension and identify areas needing further development, with a focus on modeling aggregates and part-of relationships
  • Extend and refine the ARM ontology as appropriate based on the identified areas
  • Publish an updated version of the ARM ontology extension
  • Identify long-term strategies for the ongoing maintenance and development of ARM
  • Work with the Library of Congress and the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) to align ARM with the core BIBFRAME ontology and PCC application profiles
