Atkinson's perceptive and intellectually stimulating article lays out six challenges for consideration by attendees at the October, 2005 Janus Conference. Based upon wisdom and foresight, Atkinson called for libraries to solve these challenges by working cooperatively and collaboratively. Atkinson advocated that research libraries take the opportunity to forge a new era of active cooperation and to face these challenges head on in order for the art and science of collection development to thrive and
