Matthew Ciszek grew up in Buffalo, NY and graduated from the University at Buffalo with a BA in English Literature and a Master of Library Science degree. He is currently the Library Director at Penn State Behrend and a faculty member in the Penn State University Libraries. He has been involved in a number professional organizations, including on the Rainbow Round Table of the 91´«Ã½, one of the oldest LGBTQ+ professional organizations in the country.

His research interests include LGBTQ issues in academic libraries, diversity in higher education, marketing and promotion in libraries, library leadership and administration, and collection development and assessment.

Along with Sarah Whitney, Ciszek co-won the 2024 Carnegie-Whitney Grant for the project "Turning the Page on Silence: A Guide to YA Fiction and Upstanding Against Sexual Violence."
