Juliette K. and Leonard S. Rakow Research Library of The Corning Museum of Glass

Corning, NY

About

91´«Ã½

This small but important collection of Carder Steuben glassware has been made accessible though

a collaboration between the Juliette K. and Leonard S. Rakow Research Library of the Corning Museum

of Glass and an outside organization, the Carder Steuben Club. The archives of Frederic Carder at the

Rakow Library contained 800 photographs of Carder Steuben glassware. These photographs were never

cataloged or published anywhere. Staff at the Rakow Library and Carder Steuben Club worked together

to digitize and catalog these photographs; they also created a database to record these images. The photographs

are now preserved and housed in archival-quality folders after being barcoded for inventory control

purposes and embedded as thumbnail images into the library’s catalog. The unveiling of this hidden

collection of photographs would not have been possible without the successful teamwork of the

Rakow Library staff and Carder Steuben Club members.
