The collaboration with Google addresses themes from an and was at the World Library Information Congress in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

“With information and resources available in more formats via more devices and applications, it is easier to create and spread misinformation online,” said PLA President Sonia Alcántara-Antoine. “PLA is pleased to work again with Google on the Super Searchers training to address this danger through user empowerment. This collaboration will help equip more busy library staff with skills and tools to help patrons search more efficiently and critically engage online information.”

The Super Searchers training session was created in collaboration with of the University of Washington, who developed the SIFT method for fact-checking (Stop, Investigate, Find better coverage, and Trace claims). Upon completion, training participants will be able to use common frameworks to assess information quality online, be equipped to use and share major features of the Google Super Searchers suite of tools, and be able to integrate misinformation awareness into patron interactions.

“As part of its 2022-2026 strategic plan, PLA re-committed to advancing all literacies and expanding meaningful access that results in community wellbeing,” Alcántara-Antoine said. “The Super Searchers training is a perfect complement to PLA’s ongoing digital literacy initiatives and overall commitment of literacy building through our nation’s public libraries.”
