CHICAGO — The Public Library Association (PLA) is pleased to announce new digital literacy opportunities and resources for public libraries with generous support from AT&T. Applications are now open for libraries to apply for PLA incentives to host digital literacy workshops, as well as a new Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) workshop. PLA collaborated with AT&T to develop the digital literacy and ACP courses, which are available in English and Spanish through and PLA’s .
Last year’s DigitalLearn Incentive program recipient, Fred Grimshaw of Hillside (Ill.) Public Library said, “Our DigitalLearn in-person workshops worked out better than we could have imagined. Our patrons were very engaged with each of the topics presented, and our class on How to Use an iPhone was maxed out in terms of available space.”
Building on the program’s success, AT&T is providing support for PLA to offer new, expanded incentives to enable 215 public libraries to conduct workshops using DigitalLearn training materials on up to eight topics designed to help patrons build skills and confidence using technology. In addition, a new incentive will enable 50 public libraries to conduct the new Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) Basics workshop designed to help families and households learn about ACP and how to apply for the benefit. Public libraries can apply for one or both programs until June 2nd, 2023.
PLA President Maria McCauley said, “Public libraries continuously play a vital role in providing digital literacy tools and resources to their communities. The expansion of this powerful collaboration with AT&T will ensure that even more families and communities can benefit from programs like ACP, increasing digital access and equity."
