PLA releases 'Strategic Planning for Public Libraries' publication

CHICAGO — The Public Library Association (PLA) has released a new book, "Strategic Planning for Public Libraries," addressing the key areas of strategic planning that public library professionals care about most. This instructional publication provides a framework that libraries of all sizes can use as a basis for their strategic planning. The content is supported by research conducted across more than 200 public library professionals and in-depth interviews with more than 20 library directors and leaders throughout the country.
Public library professionals who are experienced in strategic planning or just beginning will find the publication a useful blend of broad strategy as well as content tailored for public libraries. Topics covered include:
• creating a living strategic plan that can be continually updated;
• engaging the community;
• engaging staff;
• conducting a community assessment;
• reaching non-users; and
• measuring progress against the strategic plan.
