Registration opens for AASL National Conference

91ý

CHICAGO – Registration is now open for the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) National Conference & Exhibition. The conference, themed “Beyond the Horizon,” will be held Nov. 9-11, 2017, in Phoenix, Ariz. The AASL National Conference is the only national conference dedicated solely to the needs of school librarians and their roles as educational leaders. A full list of rates and deadlines can be found at .

“The AASL National Conference is a gathering of the most vibrant leaders from our profession from across the nation,” said Mary Ann Scheuer, conference co-chair. “People you read articles about are there in-person. Hearing from these experts and other inspiring speakers gives me the stamina and excitement to go back to my local community and give 150%. The conference also helps me look at my own practice and see what I can do to keep learning, growing, and improving my craft.”

Scheduled programming for the 2017 conference includes general session speakers Jaime Casap, chief educational evangelist at Google, and author Jason Reynolds, recipient of the Coretta Scott King Honor, the Walter Dean Myers Award, and the Kirkus Award. Other events include school and cultural tours; author sessions, events, and signings; a school library research symposium; more than 100 concurrent sessions; and exhibits filled with the latest resources and technologies for the school library program.

Notable for the 2017 conference is the launch of the new AASL "National Standards for School Libraries." Dedicated programming – including half-day preconferences, a general session, Unconference, and concurrent sessions – will introduce the standards and provide an overview of the implementation plan. The new standards will be available for purchase at the conference bookstore or can pre-purchased during registration. All preconference attendees will receive copies as part of their registration fee.

More information on conference programming is available on the AASL National Conference & Exhibition website located at . Those communicating about the national conference are encouraged to use the official hashtag, #aasl17.
