Global education evangelist Jaime Casap to present AASL national conference opening keynote

91ý

CHICAGO – Jaime Casap, chief education evangelist at Google, Inc., will keynote the opening general session of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) National Conference & Exhibition. The conference, themed “Beyond the Horizon,” will be held Nov. 9-11, in Phoenix, Arizona. Full conference details can be found at .

Casap evangelizes the power and potential of technology as enabling and supporting tools in the pursuit of promoting inquiry-driven, project-based learning models. He collaborates with school systems, educational organizations and leaders focused on building innovation and iteration into education policies and practices. He speaks on education, technology, innovation and generation Z at events around the world.

“I am extremely excited that Jaime Casap will be our keynote speaker,” said Cathy Evans, conference co-chair. “Jaime speaks our language about inquiry-based learning, project-based learning, problem solving, communication, and collaboration. He sees the need for schools to transform what learning looks like and advocates the use of technology to move learning toward that transformation.”

“In much of his writing,” explains Evans, “Jaime communicates that we need to quit asking students what they want to be when they grow up and ask them instead ‘what problem do you want to solve?’ This question truly changes the conversation to what tools and resources are needed to solve this problem. Jaime seemed the perfect match for our annual conference and when I found out that he lives in Phoenix, it was clear to me that this was meant to be.”

In addition to his role at Google, Casap serves on several boards for organizations focused on education, innovation, and equity. He is on the Board of Inquiry Schools, Seed Spot NEXT and Mi Familia Vota. He is part of the Phoenix Union School District Team, which created the Phoenix Coding Academy, an inquiry-based high school designed with computer science as the core language for all students. Casap is also an adjunct professor at Arizona State University, where he teaches classes on policy, innovation and leadership.

The AASL National Conference opening general session is sponsored by Follett.
