CHICAGO – With help from a new webinar from the American Association of School Librarians (AASL), school librarians with reluctant or unrealized potential can unlock their inner leader. “Coaching the Leader Within” is designed to coach and develop the skills needed to accomplish the many demands required of today’s school librarian. During the webinar, participants will identify coaching techniques to sharpen their leadership skills and compare coaching dispositions to leadership qualities. Martin also will share reflective practices participants can use to improve attitudes that support the skills needed to perform the many tasks required of them.

Martin is the retired educational specialist for library information services for Henrico County Public Schools in Richmond, Va. She is a recipient of the 2011 AASL National School Library Program of the Year Award for the district and the 2002 award for an individual school. Martin will present the “School Librarian as Leader” portion of the upcoming AASL Fall Forum. She is the author of the AASL publication, “Empowering Leadership: Developing Behaviors for Success” and an AASL past president.
