RUSA announces President's Program at 2014 91´«Ã½ Annual Conference

91´«Ã½

CHICAGO — RUSA's President's Program at the 2014 91´«Ã½ Annual Conference in Las Vegas - Our Values, Ourselves: Examining Our Values and What Others Value about Us - will bring together a multitude of leaders within the library Industry for a comprehensive overview of how our values and self-perceptions impact how we provide services within our communities.

Do our values and self-perceptions influence how we provide services within our communities?

RUSA President, Kathleen Kern said, "Americans love libraries, as shown through numerous polls and successful bond issues. Side-by-side with this good will, other libraries are experiencing budget cuts and closings. There is a lot of talk about redefining libraries. How do we do that and keep the core values which are the very reasons people love libraries? What are the core values on which libraries of all types are based? Are they the same things that our users think of as important and fundamental? This program exposes and explores the big question about who we are and what we do."

Join us for a thoughtful debate, featuring a diverse group of speakers including Wayne Bivens-Tatum (librarian and author of the book "Libraries and the Enlightenment" as well as the weblog Academic Librarian), Wayne Wiegand (library historian, academic and author of several books, including "Main Street Public Library"), Lisa Carlucci Thomas (librarian, consultant and founder of Design Think Do,) and Jeanne Goodrich (Executive Director of Las Vegas-Clark County Public Library District).
