2014 LLAMA career institute to feature seven writers and editors

CHICAGO — Join the Library Leadership & Management Association (LLAMA) in Philadelphia to learn from seven colleagues who are writing and editing professionally. The second LLAMA Career Institute – Writing & Editing: Developing Career Skills and Building Your Professional Reputation – will be offered from 1 to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014 in conjunction with 91´«Ã½ Midwinter Meeting.

The institute will showcase three writers – Jennifer Bartlett, Library Leadership & Management columnist; Toby Greenwalt, Public Libraries columnist and blogger; and Marta Deyrup, author and editor of six books. A panel of editors will also be featured, including Bradford Lee Eden, Library Leadership & Management editor; Beth M. Whittaker, RBM: A Journal of Rare Books, Manuscripts, and Cultural Heritage editor; Sarah Watstein and Eleanor Mitchell, Reference Services Review co-editors.

Writing or editing a professional publication is a great way to build skills and advance your career, explore a topic of interest, share your professional experiences and showcase your knowledge for a global audience. In this half-day institute, participants will learn how the panelists began writing and editing articles and columns, what motivates and inspires these individuals and what changes are happening in professional publications. Panelists will share their insight based on experiences and provide advice to participants on how to approach writing projects and work with publication editors.
