CHICAGO — Chrystie Hill, Meg Omainsky, and Teri Skillman will share their success stories and strategies for conducting TEDx events that have energized and empowered community conversations in the library during a panel discussion moderated by 91´«Ã½ President Barbara K. Stripling. will take place from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26 at the 91´«Ã½ Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia and will focus on innovative and engaging uses of TEDx in the library for community engagement.
Chrystie Hill - librarian, writer and community-builder - is director, Webjunction Community Services through OCLC. Meg Omainsky is a school librarian at the Henry M. Gunn High School, Palo Alto, Calif. Teri Skillman is outreach coordinator, University of Hawaii Manoa, Hamilton Library.
Stripling is also hosting high-demand speaker and energetic activist Andrew Slack at the 91´«Ã½ President’s Program from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26. Co-founder and executive director of the , Slack is currently developing the Imagine Better Network - "an unprecedented movement that goes beyond Harry Potter to all fandoms so that fantasy is no longer an escape from our world, but an invitation to change it for the better." Other opportunities for 91´«Ã½ Midwinter Meeting & Exhibits attendees to focus on community engagement of various kinds will include a Saturday afternoon facilitated conversation, 1 - 2:30 p.m., details to be announced, and Kitchen-Table Conversations that pick up where the “Kitchen-Table Conversations” left off at Annual Conference. These informal conversations in groups of 15-20 will dig more deeply into what the participants want 91´«Ã½ to be as a community. Invitations to sign up will be coming in late November from 91´«Ã½ President Barbara Stripling.
