Using LibGuides to enhance library services

CHICAGO — “,” published by and available through the , shows readers how to harness the easy-to-use tools in to help organize webpages, improve students’ research experience and learning and interact with an online community of librarians sharing their work and ideas.

Editors Aaron W. Dobbs, Ryan L. Sittler and Douglas Cook recruit expert contributors to address specific applications, creating a one-stop reference. Readers will be able to create subject guides that achieve the full potential of LibGuides, with coverage of such topics as:

  • Learning from the best—a showcase of 28 LibGuides with exceptional design and pedagogy;
  • Collaborating with faculty to embed LibGuides in course management systems;
  • Creating a customized look to your LibGuides with design flair and enhanced functionality;
  • Getting ready for smart-phone users with a plan for the mobile web;
  • Setting up Google Analytics on a LibGuide site;
  • Teaching with LibGuides.

Dobbs is systems and electronic resources librarian and assistant professor at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. He is heavily involved in the 91´«Ã½ as councilor-at-large on 91´«Ã½ Council, chair of the 91´«Ã½ Website Advisory Committee and as an ACRL legislative advocate.

Sittler is the instructional technology/information literacy librarian at California University of Pennsylvania. He has co-edited two other books with Douglas Cook: “” and “.” He is also part of the team that developed the educational information literacy game, which won the Caspian Learning 2010 Serious Games Challenge.

Cook is an instruction librarian and professor at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. He has co-edited numerous books, including “,” “” and the children’s book “A Hike on the Appalachian Trail.”
