Plan to spend Sunday afternoon with LITA in Anaheim

CHICAGO — Join LITA on June 24 in Anaheim, Calif. for a Sunday afternoon of great programming, networking and camaraderie, starting at 1:30 p. m. with (Anaheim Convention Center, Ballroom A), LITA’s ongoing roundtable discussion about trends and advances in library technology.

A panel of LITA technology experts will describe changes and advances in technology that they see having an impact on the library world and suggest what libraries might do to take advantage of these trends. Panelists will include:

  • Stephen Abram, Gale Cengage Learning
  • Lorcan Dempsey, Online Computer Library Center, Inc. (OCLC)
  • Meredith Farkas, Portland State University Library
  • Clifford Lynch, Coalition for Networked Information(CNI)
  • Nina McHale, Arapahoe Library District, Colo.

Presentation of LITA Awards and Scholarships will take place prior to the Top Tech Trends program.

Immediately following the awards reception, stick around for the (Anaheim Convention Center, Ballroom A) at 4 p.m. “The Fourth Paradigm: Data-Intensive Research, Digital Scholarship and Implications for Libraries” features speakers Tony Hey of Microsoft Research and Clifford Lynch of Coalition for Networked Information. This talk will describe the emergence of a new, "fourth paradigm" for scientific research – involving the acquisition, management and analysis of vast quantities of scientific data.

This revolution will not be confined to the physical sciences, but will also transform large parts of the humanities and social sciences as more primary research data is now being born digital. The details both of what will need to be preserved and how this will be accomplished to create an academically valid record of research for the future are only now beginning to emerge. This talk will illustrate the far-reaching changes that this new paradigm will have on scientific discovery and what it means to you in supporting this advancement of research.
