UCLA LIS student Salomon receives RUSA business reference travel award
91´«Ã½
CHICAGO — Danielle Salomon, graduate student of Library and Information Science at the University of California, Los Angeles, and intern at the Crocker Business Library, University of Sothern California, is the 2011 winner of the Reference and User Services Association’s (RUSA) Business Reference and Services Section (BRASS) BRASS Gale Cengage Learning Student Travel Award.
This award, sponsored by , enables a student enrolled in an 91´«Ã½-accredited Master’s program who has demonstrated interest in a business reference librarianship career to attend . The winner receives $1,000 cash toward travel expenses associated with conference attendance; a one year membership to the , home of BRASS; the opportunity to attend BRASS events at the conference; and publication of his or her conference experience in , the division’s electronic newsletter.
Salomon was chosen for her keen interest in business librarianship as shown by her pertinent internship at the University of Southern California Crocker Business Library, brand management background, student leadership opportunities and other notable business-related projects. One project involves conducting a comparative analysis of company and industry information in business databases, while another reflects her desire to help the community with financial literacy education. Salomon has also demonstrated her leadership as an elected financial chair of the Information Studies Student Governing Board, a representative on the UCLA Graduate Social Sciences Council, serving as president of Nidorf Collective at UCLA and by leading an Information Studies Colloquium on this collective. She will complete her Master’s of Library and Information Science in June 2011. She previously earned her Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Southern California.
“There was an excellent pool of nominees this year but Salomon stood out among them for her remarkable dedication, creativity and passion for business and the community,” said Doreen Harwood, chair of the award committee. “Her rich business-oriented background, enthusiasm and leadership ability uniquely qualify her for our profession and active participation in BRASS.”
The award plaque will be presented at the RUSA Awards Reception, scheduled for 5 - 6:30 p.m. Sunday, June 26 as a part of RUSA’s events at the 91´«Ã½ Annual Conference in New Orleans. The exact location of this event will be announced in late spring. For more information, visit or the .
