PLA to offer budget and finance workshop with Sandra Nelson in Houston this May

CHICAGO - The Public Library Association (PLA), in partnership with the Houston Area Library System, is offering a taught by Sandra Nelson, May 17-18, 2011 at the Austin Memorial Library in Cleveland, Texas.
This interactive workshop will provide the skills needed to manage all aspects of the library budget process successfully. Throughout the two-day program, participants will work through an (PDF) that includes the following sections: Understanding Budget Basics; Comparing Four Types of Budgets; Supporting Library Priorities; Monitoring and Adjusting Your Budget; Doing Cost-Benefit Analysis; Funding Major Capital Projects; and Presenting Your Budget Requests Effectively.
Award-winning librarian, consultant, speaker, trainer and writer brings her expertise in public library planning and management issues to this focused workshop. Throughout her career, she has worked in both large and small public libraries and state library agencies and has presented hundreds of training programs in 48 states.
Cost to attend the is $250 (PLA Members and partners), $300 (91´«Ã½ Members) and $400 (Nonmembers). Fee includes all training materials, breaks, and lunch on both days of the workshop.
This workshop is a ; however you do not need to be enrolled in the CPLA certification program to attend. CPLA certification is a voluntary program designed for post-MLS public librarians with at least three years of supervisory experience and includes a series of courses, each focused on one aspect of library management.
