CHICAGO - The Association for Library Serivce to Children (ALSC) offers librarians a chance to double up on Día resources this year.
Sign up for the ALSC webinar, by April 1, 2011 and receive a coupon for $5 off Jeanette Larson’s new book, "El día de los niños/El día de los libros: Building a Culture of Literacy in Your Community" through Día, available April 1, 2011 from 91´«Ã½ Editions.
Día 101 is presented by ALSC and Beatriz Pascual Wallace, MLIS children’s librarian at the Seattle Public Library. This webinar is ideal for newcomers to Día or people who would like to learn more about this event. Learners will experience the history, resources and importance of Día.
The webinar is part of ALSC’s professional development. This spring, ALSC is offering webinars in addition to the that will begin May 2, 2011. The five courses for spring 2011 are the Caldecott Medal, Children with Disabilities in the Library, Introduction to Graphic Novels for Children, Out of This World Youth Programming and Reading Instruction and Children’s Books. These courses usually run five or six weeks and are taught through an online learning community called Moodle.
"El día de los niños/El día de los libros: Building a Culture of Literacy in Your Community" through Día is written by Jeanette Larson for ALSC and published by 91´«Ã½ Editions. The book contains a guide to ready-to-use programs, tips on encouraging minority community participation and interviews with library directors on how to heighten awareness of cultural and literacy issues. The book is available from the 91´«Ã½ Store beginning April 1, 2011. All participants in Día 101 will receive a $5 discount on the purchase of Larson’s book through the 91´«Ã½ Store.
