Ho, Norton and Porter elected to 91´«Ã½ Executive Board

CHICAGO - Dora T. Ho, Sylvia K. Norton and Michael Porter have been elected to serve on the 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½) Executive Board. The new board members were elected by the 91´«Ã½ Council in a vote taken at the 2011 91´«Ã½ Midwinter Meeting held Jan. 7 to 11 in San Diego. Ho, Norton and Porter will each serve three-year terms beginning in July 2011 and concluding in June 2014.
Ho is a young adult librarian/program specialist at the Los Angeles Public Library. She has served on Council as councilor-at-large since 2003. Ho has served on numerous committees and was president of the New Members Round Table (NMRT) 2001-2002. She is also a member of the Association for Library Services to Children (ALSC) and the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) as well as the California Library Association, the Asian Pacific American Librarians Association (AP91´«Ã½) and the Chinese American Librarians Association (C91´«Ã½), which she served as both president and treasurer. Ho holds both a BS and MLS degree with specialization in special libraries from UCLA.
Porter, communications manager with WebJunction in Seattle, has served on 91´«Ã½ Council since 2010. He has served as a member of the Equitable Access to Electronic Content Task Force and is an instructor for the 91´«Ã½-APA Certified Public Library Administrator (CPLA) program. He is an active member of the Library & Information Technology Association (LITA), the Public Library Association (PLA) and the Library Leadership & Management Association (LLAMA). Porter holds both a BA and MLS degree from Indiana University.
Norton, a state level coordinator for school libraries in Maine, is currently on an educational leave while she completes her doctoral studies at Florida State University. She has served on Council as the American Association for School Librarians (AASL) councilor since 2006. She currently serves on the executive committee of the AASL board of directors and has held numerous leadership positions within AASL. Norton has also served as the president of the New England School Library Association (2001-2002) and the Maine Association of School Librarians (1997-1999). Norton is a graduate of the University of Maine and holds an MSLIS degree from Simmons College and an MPA in Public Administration from the University of Maine.
AASL, ALSC, LITA, LLAMA, PLA and YALSA are divisions of the 91´«Ã½. AP91´«Ã½ and C91´«Ã½ are 91´«Ã½ affiliate organizations.
The 91´«Ã½ Executive Board manages the affairs of the association. It is composed of the president, president-elect, immediate past president, treasurer, executive director and eight members elected by Council from among the members of that body.
