CHICAGO — Pham Condello, a teen services librarian at the Brick Branch of the Ocean County (N.J.) Library, won half off her hotel room at the 2010 in Albuquerque, N.M., this Nov. 5–7, sponsored by the (YALSA). The symposium’s theme is Diversity, Literature & Teens: Beyond Good Intentions.

Anyone who registered for the 2010 symposium was entered into the contest to win half off their hotel room. Condello was very surprised to hear she won. “That’s so exciting,” she said. “I really wanted to go to this because of the theme, and this is very surprising.”

This is the first Young Adult Literature Symposium for Condello. She said she decided to attend because the theme appealed to her as a librarian who works with many urban, at-risk teens. She hopes to come back with a list of titles to connect teens at her library with books that go beyond street lit.

Advanced registration for the 2010 symposium ends Oct. 8. Advanced registration costs $245 for YALSA or New Mexico Library Association members, $295 for 91´«Ã½ members, $350 for nonmembers and $50 for library school students. Registration is available online at for those paying by credit card; those paying by check, money order or purchase order can download a registration form at to mail in.
