Games & Gaming Round Table Announces the First Platinum Play Award Recipients
91´«Ã½
Wrapping up , the Games & Gaming Round Table (GameRT) of the 91´«Ã½ is pleased to announce the winners of the first annual Platinum Play Hall of Fame Awards (the “Platys”).
Building on the first cohort of games announced in November 2023 as the Platys Classics – Class of 2024, the 2024 list represents games highlighting the best of gaming in library spaces for games released in the last two to ten years in the categories of Board or Card Games, Tabletop Role-Playing Games, and Video Games. Platy recipients are considered standouts for Library collections or programming ideas across a wide swath of library types. Nominations were submitted by library workers and reviewed by a committee of Games and Gaming Round Table members.
This year’s Platys Class of 2024 list includes longstanding favorites such as Splendor and Azul, approachable program-friendly titles like Just One and Exploding Kittens, the tournament-friendly Super Smash Bros. Melee, geolocation game Pokemon Go, and ‘80s throwback RPG Kids on Bikes.
“The work of the Games & Gaming Round Table can be distilled most simply into helping to bring games and play into library spaces. As gaming librarians, we know very well that the games landscape can be dense and vast,” GameRT President Danielle Costello said of the 2024 Platys list. “While there are "best of" lists and awards that can be used to help navigate the landscape of modern play, we wanted resources that were informed specifically from the library perspective. To that end, our Awards committee has focused on creating an official list of games that consider our unique needs and places within our communities. I’m so very proud of that committee's dedication and so happy to share the list with you today!”
