CHICAGO — The Public Library Association (PLA) has launched , a new training module available on . This new module builds upon the site’s comprehensive resources and opportunities aimed at improving digital literacy skills within public libraries and their communities.
With support from , this module guides users through the basics of accessing telehealth. Topics includes navigating patient portals and understanding technical requirements. A complementary training package includes everything necessary to host an in-person class, such as slides, trainer guides, and handouts. Getting Started with Telehealth is free and available to everyone in English and Spanish.
“The addition of resources on accessing telehealth strengthens PLA’s commitment to narrowing the digital divide,” said PLA President Sonia Alcántara-Antoine. “This new module and training is a perfect complement to PLA’s ongoing digital literacy initiatives and overall commitment of literacy-building through our nation’s public libraries.”
“Access to telehealth services is crucial for bridging gaps in health care access, particularly in underserved communities. By empowering individuals with the knowledge and skills to navigate telehealth, we can improve health outcomes and promote equitable access to care” said Heartland Forward’s Director of Public Policy Solomon Graves.
PLA developed Getting Started with Telehealth in partnership with Heartland Forward, a think-and-do tank focused on advancing economic success by supporting healthy communities.
“As part of its 2022-2026 strategic plan, PLA re-committed to advancing all literacies and expanding meaningful access that results in community wellbeing,” Alcántara-Antoine said. “We know people come into the library to both research health issues and access technology. Getting Started with Telehealth is a valuable resource for libraries to use in supporting their patrons.”
