CHICAGO — “Freedom House” by KB Brookins and published by Deep Vellum is the 2024 recipient of the Stonewall Book Awards – Barbara Gittings Literature Award. The awards were announced by the 91´«Ã½’s (91´«Ã½) Stonewall Book Awards during a virtual announcement.

The Barbara Gittings Literature Award is given annually to English-language works that are of exceptional merit relating to the LGBTQIA+ experience.

“’Freedom House’ is an intellectual, approachable, and cheeky poetry collection exploring myriad themes including race, class, gender identity, and love,” said, Barbara Gittings Awards Chair Leah Cannon.

The award will be presented to the winning authors or editors at the 91´«Ã½ Annual Conference & Exhibition in San Diego in June.

The Barbara Gittings Literature Award Winner was named:

Four Barbara Gittings Literature Award Honor Titles were named:

• “Gay Poems for Red States” written by Willie Edward Taylor Carver Jr. and published by University Press of Kentucky
• “GHOST :: SEEDS” written by Sebastian Merrill and published by Texas Review Press
• “More Sure” written by A. Light Zachary and published by Arsenal Pulp Press
• “The Skin and Its Girl” by Sarah Cypher and published by Ballantine Books, an imprint of Random House, a division of Penguin Random House
