Registration ends Sept. 16 for Teen Read Weekâ„¢

CHICAGO — Registration for Teen Read Week™, the annual literacy event from the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), will close on Sept. 16 at . Registrants will receive:

  • A Resource Packet featuring free resources such as Teens’ Top Ten bookmarks and spine labels to promote award-winning books (funded by ).
  • A free webinar, conducted by Elizabeth Saxton on Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. EDT. Registrants will be mailed the webinar recording.
  • A complimentary issue of TeenInk, courtesy of Nonprofit Supporter TeenInk
  • Access to this year's theme logo (Picture It @ your library).
  • Free monthly e-blasts with news, resources and information to help you plan for TRW.

Visitors to the Teen Read Week website will also find activity ideas relating to this year’s theme, planning resources and publicity tools, as well as details on the Teen Read Week Photo Contest, judged by TRW Spokesperson Jay Asher.

Teen Read Week will be celebrated Oct. 16-22, with a theme of Picture It @ your library, which encourages teens to read graphic novels and other illustrated materials, seek out creative books or imagine the world through literature, just for the fun of it.

Members of Team Teen Read Week are 91´«Ã½ Graphics, Candlewick Press, Chafie Press, Chronicle Books, Carolrhoda Lab, Dollar General Literacy Foundation, Lerner Publishing Group and Penguin Books for Young Readers. Nonprofit supporting organizations include AdLit.org, the American Association of School Administrators, American Booksellers Association, Cable in the Classroom, International Reading Association, Kidsnet, Kids Care, Los Angeles Young Adult Authors, National Association of Secondary School Principals, National Education Association, National School Boards Association, readergirlz, SmartGirl.org, Speak Up Press, Swept Away TV/The Rock Star Stories and TeenInk.

Teen Read Week is a national literacy initiative aimed at teens, their parents, librarians, educators, booksellers and other concerned adults. The purpose of the event is to increase the number of teens who are regular readers and library users. It began in 1998 and is celebrated the third week in October.
