CHICAGO – This week, the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) and thousands of libraries across the U.S. are celebrating Teen Read Week. In a podcast on the 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½) Public Information Office (PIO) blog, Visibility @ your library, YALSA Communications Specialist Stephanie Kuenn discusses Teen Read Week, an annual literacy initiative encouraging teens to take time to “read for the fun of it.”
Since its inception in 1998, Teen Read Week () has focused on the importance of teen recreational reading. Teen Read Week’s objectives are to give teens an opportunity to read for the fun of it, allow teens to select their own reading materials and to help teens get in the habit of reading regularly and often.
In the podcast, Kuenn covers the many valuable tools and resources YALSA offers to help libraries get teens interested in reading. The podcast can be found by visiting the Visibility @ your library blog at .
This year’s theme is “Books with Beat @ your library,” which promotes a variety of books, from poetry to books on music, as a tool for encouraging young adults to read for the fun of it.
For more than 50 years, YALSA has been the world leader in selecting books, videos and audiobooks for teens. For more information about YALSA or for lists of recommended reading, viewing and listening, go to .
