Booklist Online “Corner Shelf” e-newsletter marks partnership with Baker & Taylor

91ý

CHICAGO - Booklist Online and Baker & Taylor are teaming up this month to launch the newest Booklist Online e-newsletter, “Corner Shelf.” With the tagline, “Where Readers’ Advisory Meets Collection Development,” the free bimonthly newsletter will address trends, ideas and issues in the two areas, helping librarians find the common ground between them. Like most aspects of library service, readers’ advisory requires a solid underpinning of sound collection development to be effective, while RA itself can be the engine that helps put the collection to work. “You might say that the two functions fit together like the pieces of a corner bookshelf,” said Booklist Editor and Publisher Bill Ott. Original writing by respected experts in both fields, as well as in-the-trenches looks at new products and what’s coming up, will make “Corner Shelf” an indispensable foundation and resource.

Regular items in the newsletter will include: coverage of broad issues in the fields of readers’ advisory and collection development; Baker & Taylor best-sellers in libraries across the nation, linked to their Booklist reviews; original essays by or interviews with recognized experts in both fields; the popular Booklist “RA Corner” and “Core Collection” features, featuring short annotated bibliographies of essential books in hot subject areas.

“Baker & Taylor was an obvious choice for sponsorship of the newsletter,” said Ott. “Given their track record of being on the leading edge in developing tools to support RA and collection development services, especially in the digital world, it makes sense for us to collaborate on expanding the reach of our combined expertise.”
