Advanced registration for YALSA’s YA lit symposium ends Oct. 8

CHICAGO — Librarians, educators, authors and fans of young adult literature won’t want to miss the biennial , Nov. 5-7, at the Albuquerque (N.M.) Marriott, hosted by the (YALSA) with a theme of “Diversity, Literature & Teens: Beyond Good Intentions.” Advanced registration — the last chance to enjoy discounts over onsite registration fees — is open through Oct. 8 at .
The symposium will offer attendees a chance to network with librarians and educators from across the country, meet more than 30 YA authors, learn about current trends in young adult literature and much more. Attendees will receive a certificate demonstrating that they have received more than 12 contact hours.
Registration for the symposium includes a welcome reception on Friday night, breakout sessions on Saturday and Sunday, an authors’ happy hour on Saturday evening where attendees can meet their favorite YA authors and receive free signed books and a general closing session on Sunday, featuring authors Ellen Hopkins and Lauren Myracle. YALSA will offer pre-symposium special events that require additional registration, including a full-day preconference (“On Beyond Stonewall: The Uphill Journey of Young Adult Fiction with Gay/Lesbian/Queer Content, 1969-2010”) on Friday, three Friday mini forums on teen readers’ advisory, street lit and urban teens and fat acceptance in YA literature and hot air balloon rides. On Saturday, registrants can add the Bill Morris Memorial Author Luncheon, featuring author Vaunda Micheaux Nelson, and a reception and tour of the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center to their registration.
Advanced registration costs $245 for YALSA members, as well as members of the New Mexico Library Association; $295 for 91´«Ã½ personal members; $350 for nonmembers; and $50 for students, who must be enrolled in a library and information science program. Registration is available online at for those paying by credit card; those paying by check, money order or purchase order can download a registration form at to mail in.
To take advantage of the advanced registration rate, your registration must be made online or postmarked by Oct. 8. Onsite fees will apply to those registrations that are made or postmarked after Oct. 8.
