The 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½) is pleased to announce the selection of Adele L. Chase of Columbia, South Carolina as the 2022 recipient of the Julia J. Brody Public Librarian Scholarship. The $4000 scholarship is awarded to individuals planning to specialize in the field of public librarianship.
Chase currently works as an associate at the Richland Library (S.C.). She says she “approaches work with an EDI-first philosophy.” She emphasizes “diversity of all kinds in story time selections, patron recommendations, in curating displays, and in information dissemination.”
Chase commented that she wants to become a library and information professional in order to continue to develop her skills, interests, and talents in the service of helping all members of her community.
Chase will be attending the University of South Carolina. Her goal is to work in a “customer-focused position in a public library system where she can teach digital and information literacy in an inclusive environment that fosters creativity.”
The Julia J. Brody scholarship is made possible through a bequest from the estate of Julia Jussim Brody, who earned degrees at Hunter College and Columbia University’s School of Library Science. After working as a librarian at a military post during WWII, Brody spent the remainder of her professional career in various positions working at the New York Public Library.
